Description:

Wednesday , 28th August 2019, tens of settlers broke into Al-Maso’udiya site North Nablus.

The responsible on colonization file north West Bank “Ghassan Daghlas” told LRC reporter:

“Tens of settlers raided the antiquities site of Al-Maso’udiya  under the protection of the occupation army , they also put several tents, brought electricity generators, amplifiers, performed Jewish prayers, and practiced gun use, most of settlers raided the area several times with the help of the occupation army.”

Jihad Shraida, Barqa village council head told LRC reporter:

“Al-Masou’diya site has a history that goes back to the 1914, the family of Al-Maso’ud donated a plot with an area of 38 dunums to build a railroad that connected Haifa to Jordan then to Saudi Arabia.

In the eve of 1967 war, the area was turned into a military barracks for five years, the occupation forces also dismantled the railway but the station remained the same, while the occupation authorities are prohibiting any rehabilitation works.

He asserted :

“During this month the occupation authorities issued four halt of work orders on four houses in Al-Masou’diya that belong to people from Barqa under claims of building in C area without licenses , and settlers broke into the area several times under the protection of the occupation army  , the town’s people received legal aid from Legal aid unit “Milad” which was founded by LRC in the Joint services council in Nablus”.

10 km east Ramallah , Burqa is bordered by Beitin (north), Al-Bireh and Kafar Aqab – Bizgout and Kokhav Ya’acov settlement – (west), Deir Dibwan (east) and Mikhmas (south).

Burqa has a population of 2047 people according to 2017 census.

Burqa has a total area of 6,065 dunums , of which 264 dunums are a built up area.

Israeli settlers built “Megron” outpost, in addition to “Kokhav Ya’acov” settlement which was established in 1984 and ate up 284 dunums of Burqa lands, and inhabited by 3,819 settlers.

Bypass 60 also devoured about 160 dunums.

Oslo accords divided Burqa lands as the following:

  • B area : (504) dunums.
  • C area : (5,561 ) dunums.
