Violation: Establishing a new outpost.

Location: Ash-Shona village – East Aj-Jiftlik / Jericho governorate.

Date: May 12th 2022.

Perpetrators: A group of colonists.

Victims: People of Aj-Jiftlik village.

Description:

Reported in the early morning hours of Thursday May 12th 2022, A group of fanatic colonists under the protection of the occupation army took over an ancient site in Ash-Shona village. Colonists sat up 5 residential tents, nearby the building on an area of 2 dunums , in addition to taking over a building and hanging the Israeli flag on it , noting that the occupation claims that the targeted land is a state’s property.

Aj-Jiftlik village council head Ahmed Ghawanma tole LRC:

“The Ancient Othman prison, is a historical heritage that reflects the area’s  significance during the past decades , the area used to be a road for farmers , merchants and piligrims , but became an isolated location under the Israeli occupation , which controls most of Aj-Jiftlik lands.”

 Al-Ghawanma asserted:

 “About three years ago, und until the date of establishing this outpost . There are daily visits to the location by colonists who try to take over it to plant an outpost, this was under the protection of the occupation forces, Palestinians at the the area fear that all the area is threatened of colonization.”

   Reportedly, several demolition and forced eviction operations were conducted in the area during the past few years, on the pretext of assaulting antiquities properties.

Colonists established another outpost in Aj-Jiftlik , nearby Abu ‘Ajaj Bedouin community southeast Aj-Jiftlik , which had a negative effect on the locals , and increased the rates of Israeli violations.

About al- Jiftlik:[1]

It is located 35km to the northern part of Jericho city and is edged by the village of Beit Dajan from the northwest and Massua colony from the west. The village has a population of 3100 people until 2017 and has a total land area of 185031 dunums of which 1110 dunums are built-up area. Noteworthy, the occupation expropriated around 12040 dunums from the village as follows:

  • 3207 dunums were confiscated for the favor of establishing colonies in the nearby.
  • 3328 dunums were confiscated for the bypass roads no. (90, 505, and 508).
  • 5505 dunums were confiscated for the favor of military camps
