Halt of work notice target a restaurant and a tent in Sebastiya /Nablus

Violation: serving halt of work notices.

Location : Sebastiya / Nablus governorate.

Date: February 5th 2020.

Perpetrators: The Israeli Occupation Civil Administration.

Victims: Citizen Nael Aqel and Malik Makhalfa.

Description:

The Israeli Occupation forces raided the Antiquities area in Sebastiya , northwest Nablus and served a halt of work order on a restaurant and threatened to confiscate a tent.

Sabastiya village council head Mohammed ‘Azzam told LRC:

“Massive army forces accompanied by a vehicle from the civil administration raided the antiquities area in Sabastiya , and gave citizen Nael ‘Aqel a halt of work order on his restaurant , and threatened citizen Jamal Makhalfeh of confiscating his tent in case he did not remove it himself.”

Restaurant owner Nael ‘Aqel (50 years) told LRC :

“The occupation forces raided the restaurant and put the halt of work order on one of the tables.”

Aqel asserted: “The targeted building is a barracks with a total area of 32 m2 , with a ceiling of cement boards and woods walls built four years ago, the restaurant provides me a job opportunity to support my family (10 members).”

Malik Makhalfa (41) told LRC:

“The occupation forces showed up in front of a tent (15 m2) we use to shelter our camels , I spend my days in taking care and raising those camels to provide a source of income for my family (7 members) , the occupation forces threatened to confiscate the tent in case I didn’t remove it myself.”

About Sabastiya village:[1]

12 kilometer north west Nablus, Sabastiya is surrounded by Burqa (north), al-Mas'udiya (west), Nisf Jubeil (east), Naqoura and Deir Sharaf (south).

Sabastia has a total population of 3205 according to statistics conducted in 2017. It has a total area of 16,225 dunums. of which 521 dunums are a built-up area of the village.

According to Oslo accords, the area is divided to three parts:

  • Area A : (8942) dunums.
  • Area B : (4980) dunums.
  • Area C : (2303) dunums.
