Violation: Placing wooden huts in preparation for the seizure of more lands.

Location: Najmat Al-Eid area - Deir Qadis village / Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorate.

Violation date: 28/04/2022 .

Perpetrators: Settlers of  Nili colony.

Victims: The people of Deir Qadis village.

The violation details:

On Thursday morning, April 28, 2022, a group of "Nili" settlers established a number of wooden huts in the Najmat Al-Eid area, which is considered an extension of mount Al-Alam northeast of Deir Qadis village. The huts were built at a distance not exceeding 200 meters from the fence of the settlement of "Nili", in preparation for the seizure of extra land for future settlement expansion  plans at the expense of Palestinian land.

The Jabal Al-Alam area is one of the lands of Deir Qadis village, which has been subjected to continuous attacks by the colonists for more than five years in an effort to control most of the lands of this mountain with the aim of expanding the aforementioned colony, as the target area is located close proximity to the  Green Line.

Mr. Abdel-Khaleq Qatusa, a member of the village council, stated to LRC's field researcher the following:

"What is happening is a continuous attempt by settlers to create random outposts aimed at closing off parts of the mountain lands, and these outposts quickly expand and are linked together in one ring that swallows the rest of the mountain's lands. We, as local committees, have tried to prevent the colonists more than once during the course of Last year, when they tried to build a colonial road in the Mount, but to no avail, as the occupation army provides them with protection and  support".

The Palestinians classify this land as pastoral land where as the occupation classifies it as “state land". For this reason, the occupation provides all forms of support  and protection to the settlers in order to control this area, and at the same time ,prevents Palestinians from accessing it.

It is noteworthy that the 3000 –dunums area of  Jabal Al-Alam is the only remaining area for the people of Deir Qadis village suitable for the future natural expansion of the village's built up area and natural resources. Nevertheless, it is being captured in an accelerating manner under the eyes of the world and this not only threatens the Deir Qadis people, but also the entire residential communities in that particular area.
