Violation: Attacking the Church of the Flagellation.
Location: Al-‘Umariya school – The Old City / Occupied Jerusalem.
Date: February 2nd 2023.
Perpetrator: Radical colonists.
The affected: the Church of the Flagellation.
Description:
Thursday , February 2nd 2023 , a group of radical colonists attacked the Church of the Flagellation , and destroyed statues for Mary the Virgin that belonged to the church and called the police .
The Occupation’s government claim that the perpetrators are tourists , but in Cameras it is obvious that the perpetrator has sideburns.
The perpetrators said: “We cannot worship statues , to most Jews all Christians are Idolatry worshippers . and Christians do not worship our god , they worship statues that represent god.”
The Israeli authorities claim that the perpetrator is psychologically ill.
Assaults that target Christian worshipping places and cemeteries repeatedly occur at Jerusalem, illegal Israeli colonists also write offensive slogans on the wall . New Israeli Minister Ben-Gveir also provokes and encourages violence against any non-Jewish person or place.
Noteworthy, LRC documented Israeli assaults on 36 churches in West Bank , 32 of them are in Jerusalem and the rest are in (Bethlehem , Ramallah , Jericho).
Churches and Monasteries attacked by the Israeli Occupation and Colonists in 1967 – according to LRC reports:
“Church of Saint John the Baptize , Church of the holy Sepulcher, Greek Orthodox Monastery , Church of the Mary Magdeline , St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church , Armenian Catholic Church – Al-Wad Neighbourhood – Via Diolorosa the old City of Hebron, Patriarchal Christian Monastries , Angelic church – Prophets street – The Old City of Jerusalem, Crucified’ s monastery that belongs to the Romanian Orthodox , Convento Franciscano , Latrun Monastery, Church of the Nativity , Church of the Cross Valley, Romanian church , The Church of the Assumption , Baptists, Beit Jamal Monastery , Angelic Christian Cemetery , Latin Cemetery , Church of All Nations , Romanian church Monastery , and the protestants Cemetery”.
