Description:

Sunday, February 13th 2022, the building inspector at the Israeli Civil Administration raided the western neighborhood of Beit Liqya town west Ramallah city , and targeted a residence and a commercial facility with  a final demolition order , noting that the structure belongs to citizen Islam ‘Assi.

The Occupation Authorities issued final demolition order number (61796) entitled “halt of work and demolition order”, and ordered to demolish the facility within 7 days, and threatened in case the owner failed to demolish the facility, the forces will carry out the demolition and make him pay all the costs.

Affected citizen Islam ‘Assi told LRC the following:

“In March 2021 , I carried on building a large structure 320 m2 , that composes of  commercial stores and a residence in Beit Liqya town , construction costs amounted to 270 thousand shekels , noting that the structure is nearby the built-up area of the village, I received a halt of work notice in November 2nd 2021 , and prepared a legal file to apply for a license , but the occupation rejected.”

Beit Liqya has a built-up area of about 1333 dunums, which forces citizens to build in area C without a license.

14 km to the southwest of Ramallah city, Beit Liqya is surrounded by Beit Ur Al-Fouqa and Beit ‘Anan (east) , Kharabtha Al-Misbah village (north), Beit Nuba and Beit Sira (west) , and Beit Nuba lands from the south.

Beit Liqya has a total population of 9,304 people according to 2017 census[2].

Beit Liqya has a total area of 13206 dunums, of which 1178 are a built-up area for the town, the town’s lands are classified as follows:

  • B area: 1374 dunums (10.4 %).
  • C area: 11832 dunums (89 . 6 %).

The Annexation and Expansion wall segment in Beit Liqya town is 4.3 km long, and isolates 2155 dunums around 15.6 % of the town lands, the occupation imposes restrictions that hinder farmers’ access to their lands behind the wall.
