The Israeli Occupation demolished a Pool in Marj Na’aja / Jericho Governorate

Violation: Demolition of a pool on the pretext of building without a license.

Location: Marj Na’aja village / North Ramallah city.

Date: May 12th 2022.

Perpetrator: The building inspector at the Israeli civil administration.

Victims: Farmer Nasr Zbidat , and Yassir Zbidat.

Description:

Thursday, May 12th 2022 , a massive army force accompanied by the building inspector at the Israeli civil administration raided the eastern part of Marj Na’aja nearby Jordanian borders, the Israeli occupation imposed a closure on the area, and demolished a water harvesting irrigation pool, on the pretext of building without a license.

The targeted pool is located within natural block (24126) piece 7 of Marj Na’aja village, in February 2nd 2022 of this year they were notified by the building inspector at the Israeli civil administration to stop work on the pretext of building without a license. Noteworthy, the pool was built 22 years ago and has a storage capacity of 500 m3, proiding water for about 15 dunums of green houses, and a source of income for 9 families (70 people).

The owner prepared the legal file and received aid from a humanitarian institution to follow up with the legal file, but the occupation refuses most paletsinian licenses applications..

The pool belongs to farmers Nasr and Yassir Zbidat , farmer Nasr Zbidat told LRC:

“Two years ago , the occupation destroyed a pool that we own in Aj-Jiftlik , we prepared the legal file and handed it through a Palestinian humanitarian institution but in vain, our loss was devastating that day, and today the forces are targeting another pool in Marj Na’ja , not to mention other losses, financial loss amounted to about 100 , 000 shekels.”

Zubeidat asserted: “we can’t find an alternative source of water for 15 dunums planted with cucumber, tomatoes and eggplants , and due to the heat wave we are losing the crop.”

Marj Na’aja:

About 37 km to the north of Jericho , Marj Na’aja village has a population of 940 people according to the Palestinian central bureau of statistics in 2012.

Most people of the village originate from Umm Al-Fahem and ‘Ara’ra occupied in 1948 , and they belong to many families such as : Ash-Shaikh Khaleel , Maso’ud , Bsharat , Abu Shadad , Al-‘Ayed , Menawi , Abu Hilal , Mara’e , Sawarqa, Bani ‘Odeh.

Marj Na’aja village has a total area of 4872 dunums of which 244 dunums are a built up area for the village, the occupation confiscated 90 dunums for the construction of Argaman colony , and there are 1500 dunums of postures.
