Rehabilitation of a colonial Road in ‘Asira Ash-Shamaliya/ Nablus governorate

Violation: Rehabilitation of a colonial road.

Location: ‘Asira Ash-Shamaliya/ North Nablus governorate.

Date: November 18 -2018.

Perpetrator: The Israeli occupation army.

Victim: number of farmers in the town.

Description:

On November 18, The Israeli occupation army carried out the rehabilitation of a colonial road (2.5) kilometers, starting from a military camp in Mount Ebal and ends in Joshua Shrine, the road area was covered with Base course preparing for paving.

Hazim Yasin head of ‘Asira Ash-shamaliya municipality told LRC observer:

“The road was opened 30 years ago and it was very beneficial for villagers in the area. However, Recently Israeli settlers and army started using the road and started rehabilitating it”

He added:

“a segment from the road lies in B area leading to Joshua shrine, The Israeli occupation is rehabilitating it in order to facilitate settlers’ way to the shrine. Israeli rehabilitation of the road endangers 3000 dunums in Burnat.”

Former Israeli Minister of Housing “Ouri Ariel” promised settlers in April 12 -2015 to facilitate to them the way to Ebal Mount so they can perform prayers in Joshua Shrine; this means more confiscation of Palestinian lands.

According to the Palestinian Ministry of tourism and Antiquities “Joshua Shrine” is a myth; it was built 1300 years ago by Canaanites where they immolated to their god.

About 'Ebal Mount:

Ebal Mount is one of the highest points in West Bank overlooking Palestinian territories occupied in 1948, Jordan and Lebanon, after Israel occupied the rest of Palestinian lands in 1976, The occupation constructed a military camp on mount Ebal, throughput the years the camp expanded, The military camp contain watchtowers, helisite, heavy machineries and overlooks Nablus city (south), Mediterranean cost (west), and the Jordan valley area from the east.

About ‘Asira Ash-Shamaliya[1]:

4 Kilometers North Nablus City, ‘Asira Ash-Shamaliya is surrounded by Beit Imrin village (north), Zawata  village (west), Al- Bathan village (east) and Nablus city (south).

‘Asira Ash-Shamaliya has a population of (8813) people in 2017 census.

The Occupation had confiscated (353) dunums for a military training camp.

According to Oslo convention the city is divided to 3 parts:

  • Area A: (15128) dunums.

  • Area B: (8362) dunums.

  • Area C :  (5543) dunums.
